Jean Anouilhs tragedy inspired by Greek Mythology and the play of the same name by Sophocles was first performed in Paris during the Nazi occupation. The comparison is inevitable between the French occupation and the play with the character of Antigone representing the French resistance and her uncle Creon the collarborators to the German occupiers.
