Beginning in 1740s England follows Jack Frake an independently-minded 10-year-old-boy as he runs away from home after the murder of his tutor falls in with a band of smugglers who rob the government and give to themselves and poor and sets off for the American colonies aboard the ship Sparrowhawk.
